Fly Higher With the New IMAX Film, The Blue Angels

 

If you've ever been to an air show, it's likely you had the opportunity to see some of our elite military air squadrons take to the skies. Whether it's the Air Force's Thunderbirds or the Navy's Blue Angels (or perhaps both!), it's a treat to see these pilots fly in formation, at times flying so close they're less than an arm's length away from one another. In a new IMAX documentary, viewers can follow a year in the life of The Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy's elite air squadron. We not only see the pilots that fly these planes but the 100+ support staff that are also part of The Blue Angels.

 

Who are the Blue Angels?

Founded in 1946 by Admiral Chester Nimitz, the Blue Angels flight exhibition team was created to raise public interest in naval aviation as well as boost Navy morale. Precision combat maneuvers were performed in the early days of the Blue Angels with aerobatic maneuvers added  soon after. In the beginning, the squad flew F6 Hellcats, F8 Bearcats, and F9 Panthers. Today, the Blue Angels fly Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornets.

 

What is The Blue Angels about? 

The Blue Angels is a fascinating documentary following the U.S. Navy's elite air squadron, The Blue Angels. Produced by J. J. Abrams and Top Gun: Maverick's Glen Powell, the doc follows the 2022 class as they break in new members, the rigorous training schedule they must maintain, and a bird's eye view of those death-defying maneuvers. As members finish their tours and rotate out, new pilots must be chosen to join this elite team.
